Susie Humphrey, Abbi Canney, and Kate Canney are the designers at Empress Josephine Florals. We all have a love of plants, art and design. Between us, we have studied art, design, landscaping, gardening and organic farming at Rhode Island School of Design, Massachusetts College of Art, Radcliffe School of Design, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In addition to floral design, we create and maintain estate gardens around Boston.
Our name comes from Empress Josephine, wife of Napoleon. Josephine loved flowers, and was a dedicated gardener, responsible for the creation of the gardens at her home at Malmaison. She introduced and collected many varieties of roses and other plants to France, popularized the dahlia (our favorite), and amassed an amazing collection of plants. Josephine shared the cuttings from her gardens, spreading unique and beautiful plants throughout France.
